One afternoon, Marilyn Kennedy was sitting in her living room at 555 Laughing Water Way in Kentucky when she heard a mysterious knocking. It seemed to vibrate throughout the house and she was instantly terrified. She had never heard anything like this even though she, her husband, and their three small children had lived in the house for almost ten years. In an attempt to locate the source of the unusual sound, she followed the knocking and finally determined that it was coming from the front door. Steeling herself, she opened it, and found a strange man she had never seen before standing on her front steps.
“I just wanted to see if anyone was home,” he said. “I’m looking to do some landscaping work.”
That was when Mrs. Kennedy realized that in all her years at 555 Laughing Water Way, everyone had rung the bell.
